(COSTUME DESIGNER CONT'D) As for the male characters, their wardrobe fell back into two very distinctive categories. On the one hand, Pedro Paulo (Fagundes)'s sophisticated elegance, translated into Ermenegildo Zegna's suits, and Roberto (Pedro Cardoso)'s understated style, with suits created in collaboration with S. Paulo designer Ricardo Almeida.
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum of such discreet elegance were the designs created for Acácio (Alexandre Borges), the soccer player: "In creating his wardrobe, I used all the most evident signs of ostensive wealth, with bold colors, fabrics and patterns which evidenced his fit body, with a bit of a gangster's touch," describes the costume designer.
Her creations were met with such enthusiasm by Michael Barker, Co-President of Sony Pictures Classics, that he plans to set up an exhibit at Bloomingdale's with BOSSA NOVA's wardrobe. "For now, that's still a dream," says Emília Duncan. Among her many screen credits, she was costume designer in Carlota Joaquina (Carla Camurati), Four Days in September (O Que é Isso, Companheiro?, Bruno Barreto), Coração Iluminado (Hector Babenco), and Orfeu (Carlos Diegues), and art director in Um Copo de Cólera (Aluízio Abranches).
