BOSSA NOVA is a romantic comedy to the beat of Tom Jobim's unforgettable classics, having as a backdrop present day Rio de Janeiro, directed by Bruno Barreto and produced by Lucy and Luiz Carlos Barreto's LC Barreto & Filmes do Equador, in association with Globo Filmes. The first Brazilian film to have its rights for international exhibition picked up still in its script form, BOSSA NOVA will be distributed in the U.S. and Canada by Sony Classics and worldwide by Sony Entertainment/Columbia Pictures/TriStar. In Brazil, the film will be distributed by Columbia TriStar.

A free adaptation of the novel A Senhorita Simpson, by Sérgio Sant'Anna, BOSSA NOVA was written by Alexandre Machado and Fernanda Young. Starring AMY IRVING and ANTONIO FAGUNDES, as well as Alexandre Borges, Débora Bloch, Drica Moraes, Giovanna Antonelli, Pedro Cardoso, Rogério Cardoso e Sérgio Loroza. The cast also includes American actor Stephen Tobolowsky, and Argentine veteran actor Alberto de Mendoza.

The production's international cast and crew also includes French Director of Photography Pascal Rabaud, American Editor Ray Hubley. The music is by Eumir Deodato. Cássio Amarante and Carla Caffé are the Art Director and the Costume Designer is Emília Duncan. The film was shot in Rio de Janeiro, between December '98 and January '99.

BOSSA NOVA, Bruno Barreto's 14th feature film, is dedicated to Antonio Carlos Jobim and François Truffaut.
