Brian Friel
(Playwright) - Born in County Tyrone, Brian Friel began writing short stories in 1950 for New Yorker Magazine. He is the author of many plays that have taken their place in the canon of Irish Literature, including "Philadelphia Here I Come", "Lovers", "The Freedom of the City", "Living Quarters", "Faith Healer Translations", "Wonderful Tennessee", "A Month in the Country" and "The Communication Cord". "Dancing at Lughnasa" was first produced in the Abbey Theatre, Dublin in 1990, it transferred to Broadway where it met with widespread critical acclaim and won three Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress for Brid Brennan.
