Biography

Gerard Corbiau began his career as a director in French television in 1968. Since then he has directed more than fifty films. He has twice been awarded the prestigious Television Critics Award the "Antenne de Cristal" and his films regularly represent the RTBF at television festivals.

In 1987, he directed his first feature, THE MUSIC TEACHER (for which he also co-wrote the screenplay) which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Fim in 1988, and which won the Special Jury Prize at the Rio Film Festival.

In 1990, he directed his second feature, L'ANNEE DE L'EVEIL, based on the autobiography of Charles Juliet, the screenplay of which he co-wrote with Andree Corbiau and Michel Fessler. The film was in Official Competition at the Locarno Film Festival in 1991.

FARINELLI, which recently won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, has been nominated for an Academy Award.
