Formed in August 1994 as a new division within Sony Pictures Classics, SPC Large Format was created to produce, acquire and distribute Large Format films (IMAX, Iwerks, Showscan) for Sony.

SPC, Large Format's debut release, WINGS OF COURAGE, premiered at the Sony IMAX Theatre in New York City in April 1995. As the first drama shot in IMAX^® 3D, WINGS OF COURAGE changed the course of large format films forever and immediately established SPC Large Format as an industry leader.

WINGS OF COURAGE was followed by ACROSS THE SEA OF TIME which premiered in October 1995 and cemented our commitment to films that are as entertaining as they are educational. SPC's latest Large Format release, THRILL RIDE: The Science of Fun, was produced by nWave Pictures and opened in July 1997.
