CHRISTINE VACHON

Vachon produced Todd Haynes first feature film, "Poison," which was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. It was also featured at the Berlin International Film Festival and won the Critic's Prize at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. Vachon also produced Tom Kalin's first film, "Swoon," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival where it took the Jury Prize for Cinematography. "Swoon" is based on the infamous Leopold and Loeb murder case and stars Wooster Group members Ron Vawter, Michael Kirby and Michael Stumm. "Swoon" was acquired by American Playhouse and Fine Line Features. Vachon was executive producer of Rose Troche's first film, "Go Fish," a slacker-dyke epic, and "Postcards From America," a film based on the life and writings of artist David Wojnarowicz, directed by Steve McLean. Vachon is also a co-founder of Apparatus Productions, a non-profit production company dedicated to the work of emerging filmmakers. Through Apparatus, she has produced seven short films, including the acclaimed "He Was Once," winner of Best Narrative Short at the Golden Gate Awards, the USA Film Festival and the Melbourne International Festival. Vachon has worked in a variety of capacities with many independent directors including Jill Godmillow, Bette Gordon and Bill Sherwood, and was the assistant director on Raul Ruiz's "The Golden Boat." She has also written and directed three short films: "A Man in Your Room" (1984), "Days Are Numbered" (1986) and "The Way of the Wicked" (1989). Her work has been shown extensively at media centers and film festivals in the U.S. and abroad. Recently Vachon co-produced the feature film "Kids," which deals with kids on the street; photographer Larry Clark is the director. She is currently in post-production on "Stonewall," a feature film about the lives of people involved in the 1969 Stonewall riots, and she is also co-producing "I Shot Andy Warhol," about Valerie Solanas starring Lili Taylor.
