Zhang Yang (Director/Co-Writer)
As a director, Yang was one of the pioneers in China's underground
music video scene. "Shower" is Zang Yang's second feature.
His first film, "Spicy Love Soup,"
had box-office receipts placing it among the most successful nonpolitical
films in the last two years. It swept all the domestic Chinese awards
and was elected for competition at the 1998 Tokyo International
Film Festival and was invited to the San Diego International Film
Festival, Kerala Film Festival (India), Pan Asia Film Festival (London)
and Far East Film Festival (Italy). It's soundtrack even sold 500,000
units in mainland China. The film was China's first sleeper hit
and was the first independent Chinese film to achieve domestic box
office success.
Peter Loehr (Producer) established
Imar Film Co., Ltd. in 1997, the first legal, multifaceted independent
film company in China. In conjunction with the Xin Film Studio,
Imar produces, markets and distributes their own films. They have
a unique relationship with Rock Records Taiwan, giving them access
to the world's largest Mandarin music catalog for their soundtracks.
They produce films exclusively for the Chinese urban youth audience
- modern, urban films with an emphasis on the realities of the modern
Chinese lifestyle - working exclusively with first time directors
and young film crews.
Their first film was Yang's "Spicy
Love Soup," and their second, "A Beautiful New World," is currently
in release in China. It is among the three most successful films
so far this year and soundtrack sales have surpassed those of "Spice
Love Soup." Their upcoming film, "The End of the Line," is billed
as China's first "road movie." Variety named Loehr one of "10 Producers
to Watch" in 1999.
Liu Fen Dou, Zhang Yang, Hou Xin,
Diao Yi Nan, Cai Xiang Jun (Screenwriters) After their screenwriting
debut on "Spicy Love Soup," this young writing team wrote the screenplay

of the early Zhang Yuan films, such as "Mama," "Son," "Beijing Bastards"
and "East Palace, West Palace."

China's youngest film editors, was also the editor of "Spicy Love
Soup," "A Beautiful New World" and "The Making of Steel."
