DONAL LUNNY (Composer) Over the past 25 years, Lunny has been the single most important figure in Irish traditional music, presiding -- as performer, producer, musician and catalyst -- over the phenomenal renaissance that has made Irish music popular all over the world. The past two or three years have perhaps been the busiest in his life. Apart from writing the theme music for Philip King's award-winning 1995 TV series "A River of Sound," he produced in 1996 the acclaimed "Common Ground" album, a compilation on a traditional Irish theme featuring the likes of Kate Bush, Sinead O'Connor, Bono, Elvis Costello and many others, brought together an impressive group of Irish musicians and singers for the huge "From the Heart" festival in London. With his band, he toured in Australia and Japan and he orchestrated and presented two series of King's innovative Irish music series, "Sult for Telefis."
