Jiang Wen - Lieutenant Li A warrior by profession, Lt. Li spent his youth and early adulthood serving in the army of the Tang Emperor. Highly decorated, and commanding complete respect - even love - from his men, the Lt.'s exploits as an officer battling the Turks in far western China were known even to the emperor. But as the battles became increasingly vicious, Lt. Li's commanders began to use terrifyingly harsh tactics against the local population. Here Lt. Li parted ways with his superiors - a difference that reached the breaking point when Lt. Li was ordered to massacre a group of prisoners, all women and children. Li, along with his men, mutinied, killing a loyal Tang officer in the fight. As a result, Lt. Li, once one of the Tang army's most celebrated soldiers, is now the most wanted criminal in the wild western territories. Constantly fleeing the authorities, Li works as a guard and guide for camel caravans plying the Silk Road. Lt. Li may have finally met his match when the emperor dispatches the magnificent swordsman Lai Xi to track him down. But Lai Xi and Lt. Li postpone their battle when they learn that the caravan they are guarding is carrying a mysterious relic with mystical powers - and it's destined for the emperor himself. |
