PENÉLOPE CRUZ (Sister Rosa) Probably the most important young star in Spain, she first came to notice in Bigas Lunas Jamon, Jamon, which quickly led to starring roles in major spanish films such as Fernando Truebas Belle Epoque (Best Foreign Film Oscar®), Manuel Gomez Pereiras Love Can Seriously Damage Your Health and Alejandro Amenabars Open Your Eyes. Outside of Spain, she has participated in Giovanni Veronesis Per Amore e Solo per Amore, Jacques Webers Don Juan, and Maria Ripolls The Man with Rain in His Shoes, among others. Most recently, she has starred in Fernando Truebas The Girl of Your Dreams, for which she won the Best Actress Goya Award in 1999, and has a featured role in Hi-Lo Country, directed by Stephen Frears. Her small role in Live Flesh, as Victors mother, who gives birth on a bus, left her and Pedro Almodóvar wanting more. She has recently completed Bigas Lunas Volaverunt, will soon star along Matt Damon in All the Pretty Horses, directed by Billy Bob Thornton, and is currently in production of Woman on Top, directed by Fina Torres. |
